More on Dura-lar Matte WIP at STUDIO 206, Waterfront Wednesdays, Mukilteo

We all had a lot of fun last week, at Waterfront Wednesdays in Oldtown Mukilteo. Thanks to all of you who stopped in to say hello to us at Studio 206 in the Mukilteo Art Building. It was great meeting and talking with everyone. I especially enjoyed showing the children who were interested, how I worked.

Roxanne Jaross, owner of Studio 206, artist Janie Olsen, and I will once again be in Studio 206 this Wednesday in the Mukilteo Art Building, showing a selection of our work. My work seen above is from the Italian Hills Series. Janie has a selection of her beautiful and mysterious dog paintings, they always make me smile, Janie! Roxanne has her delicious chocolate paintings as well as her cat and crow work. Click on the artists' name for a link to their websites.

I'll once again be set up with a demo of my work in progress, done in graphite on Dura-lar Matte film. Unfortunately, the one I had been working on met with a bit of an accident this past weekend! I've had to start over, but I'm making a lot of progress. Above is what I have done so far and I hope to be even further along by Wednesday evening. I hope we have more folks this Wednesday as word gets out and the weather improves. I think there are glass blowing demos downstairs at 5, so come on upstairs afterwards and see our work. We'll all three be there, rain or shine so hope you can make it! Click on Waterfront Wednesdays for the link on times and events.

How lovely to see your face Barbara - now I can visualise you better!!! How brave you are to do a demonstration!!! I feel for you having to start your artwork again - drafting film is not without it's challenges!!!

I so wish I could come out! The way these paintings are all displayed really looks beautiful, Barbara. Clean and simple, elegant and sophisticated. Gorgeous!

Thanks Gail. I dropped a container of pencils on the first wip. I USUALLY protect what I'm working on, but I was in a hurry! Didn't save any time after that!

Thanks Janie, you take a good photo. See you tonight!

Thanks Tracy and yes, I am a real person. Thought I'd better show my face to prove it!

Sherry you are so kind. I wish you could be here too.

Hi Karen, your post didn't get moderated with the others! Thank you and yes, drafting film does have it's problems especially when a container of pencils gets dropped on it! I think any surface would not do well taking that kind of abuse! And as to the demo, well, I'm not really that brave. It's more of a show and tell. It's hard to do any real work, the lighting wasn't set up for the kind of close detail I like to do. However, I was able to show what the film looks like and how you can work on both sides, and back with colored paper, etc. I also had my magnifier to show the detail. It's been fun so far. I hope we have more people this week.

I hope you get a big crowd too...What a treat for those who get to see you work!

Thanks Deb. The crowd has been just a trickle. Hopefully the weather changing for the better will bring more art lovers out!

Barbara, are you using a magnifying glass in this photo? If so, is it helpful?

Hi Sue, and yes! I could not work that small or detailed without being able to see what I am doing. I think most of the miniaturists use magnification of some sort. That is also why magnifiers are available at miniature art shows, to see all the fine details.

Thank you, I may have to try one. Would you recommend any one in particular?
