36th Annual Arts of the Terrace, Mountlake Terrace

Autumn is here officially, and it's time for the 36th Annual Arts of the Terrace Festival in Mountlake Terrace! I am so happy to say that all the works I submitted for the show were juried in! My four in the Miniature category are, Crow and Clover,  Afghan Kitty,  Patience and The Hunter. My new drawing, Outside In, was also selected in the Drawing, Painting and Prints category! I always look forward to this show and this year, they've added new hanging panels that accentuate the artwork and new lighting that really makes the colors pop!

The show runs from September 27th through October 5th, at the Mountlake Terrace Library Complex, 23300 58th Ave. W. in Mountlake Terrace. (map) There will be an Artists and Patrons Preview, on September 26, 7:00pm - 9:00pm, with an Awards Ceremony at 7:30pm. The show will be open to the public starting September 27th - October 5, 2014.  Hope you get a chance to see the show.

Finally!  I'm so excited to be back making my art and participating in shows once again.  It's been a very busy year with a lot of family changes, a lot of physical and emotional work, as well as moving house!  During that time, it was very difficult to make art and stay focused.  Now that I am back in my studio working, I feel so much better.  My work is my meditation and focus, and I'm very happy to be back to creating!

 In addition to the Mountlake Terrace Show, I have submitted work to the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society show coming up in November and will be submitting work to the Miniature Art Society of Florida,  for their show in January 2015. I'll be back blogging and posting my new work and the shows I'm in as soon as they happen.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my work and the shows I'm participating in.  I apologize for the long absence, but sometimes life happens and you need to change direction.  I'm happy I have my art to come back to.

"Hideway" - Awarded Second Place Landscape, at 39th Annual International Miniature Art Society of Florida Show!

I am so excited to announce that my miniature, Hideaway has been awarded Second Place in Landscape at the 39th Annual International Miniature Art Society of Florida Show!  There will be over 900 Fine Art Miniatures from artists around the world!  What great news, I am so honored!

Hideaway is one of two works that were part of the Miniature Artists of America's (M.A.A.) submissions that traveled as part of the World Federation of Miniature Artists, for the 5th Worldwide Conference and Exhibition of Fine Arts in Miniature, held at the Russian Academy of Art in Moscow, Russia,  September, 2012!! Whew!  I remember at the time I didn't have much information on the show, however, when they were returned, I was glad to find out they were in the exhibit.  They were gone a long time, traveling from here in Washington to Florida to London to Moscow and who knows how many custom stops in-between!  Now it is once again on exhibit in the Miniature Art Society of Florida Show!

I am happy to say that all five of my works were juried in the show! This year the show will be at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in Dunedin, Florida, 1143 Michigan Blvd., Dunedin, FL.  The show opens on January 18th and runs through February 9, 2014!  This is a wonderful show and not to be missed!  I was fortunate enough to have attended the show once and hope to be able to do it again, someday.  I'll be blogging again as a reminder of the show as it gets closer.

56th Annual Edmonds Arts Festival - Work Selected!

I'm very happy to announce that all my submissions have been selected for the 56th Annual Edmonds Arts Festival!  This year my entries have a bird theme.  In the drawing category, my new graphite work, Special Delivery, features a crow as messenger.  My work in the painting category, Snowy Visitor, has a snowy owl regally posing on driftwood.  In the miniature category, my paintings include a pelican, Catchin' Some Rays, a heron, Patience, an eagle, The Hunter, and more crows, this time as a trio in, Negotiation.  I guess you can tell, I love birds!

The Edmonds Arts Festival is a three day fun filled event that takes place over Fathers' Day Weekend, June 14th -16th, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Frances Anderson Cultural Center, 700 Main Street in beautiful downtown Edmonds, WA. The Edmonds Arts Festival is one of the longest running in the Northwest, attracting artists from across the nation.  There are artists booths outside along with performing arts and children's activities and yummy food.  My work will be in the Juried Gallery Show which is INSIDE the Frances Anderson Center.  There are different rooms exhibiting the juried work, the main gallery where my work is located, you'll find, paintings, drawings and miniature art.  Don't miss the photography and artisan work which is located in rooms a few steps up.  Also, you can find the excellent student art show downstairs. Don't miss out on a fun weekend!  Bring Dad along, too!  All artwork is for sale.  Remember, art makes a fine Fathers' Day Gift!  Happy Fathers' Day to all you Fathers out there!

2012 Miniature Masterpieces and More! - Kaewyn Gallery - Bothell WA

It's that time of year for the Miniature Masterpieces and More! exhibit at Kaewyn Gallery in Bothell.  This year I'll have all acrylic paintings of birds, including Negotiation, my latest miniature painting.

I love to watch crows socializing.  These three were actually sitting on our bird bath last summer and we were able to watch them for quite some time.  Wayne took a lot of photos while the whole family refreshed themselves and chatted.  On one of our walks in Mukilteo, we watched several crows on the rocks near the water's edge.  I'm not sure what they were doing, but it looked like they were picking up bits under the rocks.  The water and rocks were such interesting colors, I decided to recreate that day for my backyard crows.

The Miniature Masterpieces and More! show opens today, Friday, November 30th at Kaewyn Gallery in Bothell WA.  You can also view the paintings on my website by clicking on a title, or view all the work from this series at the link, Birds - Wild and Domestic.  All my miniature art is under 25 inches square.  For further information on fine art miniatures, click on the link for the Association of Miniature Artists,  Miniature Painters, Sculptors, and Gravers Society of Washington D.C. ,  Miniature Art Society of Florida, and the Miniature Artists of America, all of which I am a member of.

6th Annual Miniature Fine Art Show at Artistic Designs Gallery

This weekend is the opening of the 6^th Annual Miniature Fine Art Show at Artistic Designs Gallery in Brownsburg, Indiana. (map) This is another new venue for me.  I have three fine art miniature paintings,  A Walk in the Woods, Catchin' Some Rays, and Patience, all bird paintings in the show.  The judging of the work this year will be done by Wes and Rachelle Siegrist, who will also be teaching a workshop on miniature painting and signing their books.

The show features a world-class exhibit of fine art miniatures and small works. There will be a variety of media from renowned artists from across the United States as well as Internationally.  All of the work is minute in scale, high in quality, exquisitely detailed and available for purchase. In addition to the Miniature Fine Art Exhibit, The Miniature Artists of America’s Traveling Exhibition (MAA) will be on display.  This elegant exhibit has been prepared to be shown as an educational tool and contains 35 juried works by 35 Signature artist members. These works have been painted by some of the foremost miniaturists in the United States, England, Canada, and South Africa. Works in this exhibit are not available for purchase.  I do not have work in the Traveling Exhibition yet, but will when this exhibit changes works, now that I am a signature member!  I'm still deciding which work I want to represent me, since the exhibition travels. 

The 6^th Annual Miniature Fine Art Show opens Saturday July 14th, and runs through Saturday August 25th. Admission is free for all visitors, and you can stop in to see these tiny works of art any time through August 25 during Artistic Designs Gallery business hours which can found on their website: http://www.artisticdesignsgallery.net/.  Sounds like a great show, I wish I could be there!  If you are anywhere near this area during this time, it would be a great opportunity to see both of these fine exhibits together!

It must be spring because it's that time again for Seaside Art Gallery's 21^st Annual International Miniature Art Show in Nags Head, North Carolina. This great show is a favorite of mine. I love the presentation of the entire show online. Seaside is a very organized and well run gallery.  Not only can you click on the work and it will enlarge, but if you click on the details, it tells you the artist's name and where they're from.  There is also a thumbnail of the work in it's frame that you can click on for an enlarged framed view. The clarity of the image is perfect AND you can put it in your cart and buy it online!  My work was posted online Monday morning and by around noon, I was checking on it for the link and was surprised to see that Moonbathing had already sold!!  That made my day!  Just click on Patience, Undaunted or Moonbathing to see my work on Seaside's online gallery.

Another happy event is Gina Ballew, my daughter, also has two of her mosaic works in the show.  It's her first out of state show!  Her two beautiful works,  Awaiting Spring's Arrival and The Snake Doctor can been seen by clicking on the titles or you can read about them on her blog, Pink Chicken Mosaics.  This is the first show we both have work in together!  I'm really pleased she took the plunge and put her work out there!  You can view all the work in this fabulous miniature art show on their website at, Seaside Art Gallery Miniature Art Show.

This is Seaside Art Gallery's 51^st Anniversary in the original location of the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina.  This show is one of the top five national miniature shows in person and online.  The exhibition runs from April 28^th through June 2^nd,  2012. The online exhibition starts upon arrival of each artist’s work.  When the artwork arrives in the gallery, it is examined, measured, photographed and posted.  Each year, this nationally acclaimed miniature show exhibits approximately 600 works of art by artists from all around the globe. Some of the world’s most renowned miniature artists participate each year. Miniature art is often referred to as "the little jewels of the art world" and enjoys continued growth in popularity worldwide. Wish I could be there to see it in person! My new works, Patience and Undaunted were painted in acrylic on Illustration Board.  The heron was from our outing that we took to Boundary Bay, BC (to see the Snowy Owls). The snail was from a hike we took at the Boulder River Wilderness Area.  Moonbathing is from my series, Wood Nymphs and Other Curiosities.

On another note, I'll have more new work and show announcements to post soon.  I have been really busy creating enough new work for all the spring show deadlines.  It's been difficult to keep up with the demands of not only creating the work, but also all the other things that go into making it a finished piece of art ready for show.  Then add all the social media to keep up with in promoting that work!  In March we traveled by train to visit my in-laws in Indiana.  They are still insisting on living independently in their own home but have become more frail.  We do worry about them, so we are trying to visit often.  To all my blogger friends, I do read about all your new work and shows, but I don't always get to reply.  You are all an inspiration!  Until next time, I thank you for taking the time to read about my work.  Happy Spring!
