Gina Ballew, Entry Featured in Fundraiser in Austin

I am so happy for my daughter Gina Ballew who is once again participating in the annual silent auction fundraiser held in La Peña's downtown Congress gallery in Austin. Her mosaic heart, The Object of My Affection, was one that was included on their local We Are Austin, TV spot. It's the one in the center of the table, she didn't pick it up, but it's easy to see. I'm sure that it will have a lot of bidding on it!! I'm very proud of Gina and her dedication to making time for her art. Congratulations Gina!! Have fun tonight!

Toma Mi Corazón XVIII, Saturday, February 6, 2010, Preview Party: 4:30-6:00 pm, $10 admission (includes silent auction), Silent Auction: 6:00-8:00 pm, $5 admission for silent auction onlyGallery located at 227 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX.

Hi Sherry, Thanks for your kind words. Gina's "heart" brought $125. It was up there with the higher bids. She had several people bidding on it and the one lady who bid three times was so happy to have gotten it just before the bidding closed! Gina was thrilled that her buyer was so happy to have gotten it!

If you click on the "We Are Austin, TV" spot it will take you to a different website, then play the video clip on the left, where you can see some of the hearts they brought to show. They are all on a table and they pick up a few to show. You can see Gina's heart on the table in the center. You can also see her heart entry if you click on the title of her work in my blog, "The Object of My Affection", it will take you to her Wordpress site. You can see some of her other work by going to her site. Just scroll down on my blog, under Favorite Artists' Sites, etc. It's on the right hand side, just click on her name, Gina Ballew. Hope this helps you see her work. Thanks again, I'll pass your comments along. : )

Thanks, Barbara. Her piece is gorgeous! I was instantly reminded of your silverpoint piece with the crow holding the key to the door in the tree. I so love mosaics. (So sorry I didn't realize the brown titles were hyperlinks! LOL Sometimes I can be slow on the uptake.)

Thanks Janie and Sherry, Yes, we both like crows! I think she was doing them before I did. I'll be sure to pass your complements along. They will make her happy. : )

No problem Sherry. I put a lot of links in my posts, so any time you see a word highlighted, put your mouse over it, because it may be a link. I like to link so that if anyone is interested in whatever I'm talking about, they can go to that link to find out more. It's interesting because in my post about the chickens, Janie when to the name of the chicken breed, White Cochin Bantam which is highlighted and that link took her to the hatchery that was the same one that she bought her chickens from when she raised chickens. It's such a small world!

Wow, thanks everybody for all your awesome comments! I was really thrilled to do this fundraiser and loved it that the heart brought in a good donation for La Pena and the buyer was so happy when she won it. The fundraiser supports La Pena's arts programs for kids.

I do love crows. They're really beautiful and intelligent birds. My fascination with them started a few years ago when I visited my Mom and Dad in WA. I watched, for two days, a crow harass a seagull standing on top of a pole. It was pretty entertaining.

I really enjoy birds in general and the closest thing to a crow we have in Austin are grackles. We do have some crows here and there but they prefer the suburbs and the country more, I guess. :)
