Feeling Better and Pie!

I can't believe it's been so long since I've done any blogging. First off, I hope all my blogging friends have had a great holiday! I've been trying to keep up with everything new that's been posted and reading all the great things you are all doing.

After years of staying free of colds and flu, my luck ran out. Last Wednesday while out doing the food shopping, in spite of constant hand sanitizing I picked up a bug. Boo Hoo! I have been stuffed up and dragging around, feeling like not doing much of anything. I felt like a wimp complaining. After all, it was just a cold! But, I forgot how miserable a cold could get, especially at night! Fortunately, I was able to cook and taste all the goodies I made. I even experimented and made a pretty decent pie crust from oat flour, I've been trying to avoid spelt. I made a pumpkin filling without eggs, or cinnamon which are also problem foods. It was really good!!! It was a great treat for me to be able to eat pie!

As for getting in my studio and doing some actual work, I'm afraid very little happened. I did however, manage to do some designs for future work. I'll say more on that later, so stay tuned. Fortunately, I think I'm almost over the worst of my cold and getting some energy back! I will be working in my studio today! Yay!! To good health! Salute!

Hi Barbara---glad you are feeling better and will look forward to your new pieces! I really like oat flour -i used to make Chocolate chip cookies with oat flour and they were really good. Off the art subject have you ever used this recipe substitute for an egg:
2T. finely ground flax seeds whisked into 1/3 cup warm water? I have never tried it but sounds interesting. Well to good health for the new year :)

Hi Janie and thanks. I can tolerate egg white, so do sometimes use them for certain things, it's the yolk that's the problem. Yes I have used the flax as egg substitute. It works great for baked goods like muffins but you have to be careful because it makes some things too moist and they seem to never get done! I think I made some zucchini pancakes once and had trouble with them. But they tasted great. We use flax all the time, ground and oil. Going to cook some quinoa tonight and bake a delicata squash. I love flax with the two of them. I'm making a frittata for Wayne since I had to break a lot of eggs trying to get one clean for the egg tempera! I didn't have this much trouble the other couple of times I did it! It took me four tries before I got one whole and cleaned off! He's not complaining! : )

So sorry to hear you have been sick Barbara, especially on Christmas and I hope you feel much better soon!!! I didn't realise you had an egg allergy - I must have missed that in your blogging - that makes eating pre prepared foods a bit difficult. Will catch up in the New Year :)

Oh to have a day to work in the studio! I am having such a hard time finding my time for myself and for artwork since I began working. I can imagine how you must be feeling when felled by a cold or flu. So glad to hear you are on the mend though, Barbara. Can't wait to see what is next out of that BFree Studio!

Thanks Karen and Autumn. Right, Karen, no packaged food! There is a long list of problem foods, wheat, egg yolk, soy, corn, potato, it goes on. But I love to cook so I am usually safe at home. Just
forget quick and easy! I won't die or anything if I eat the wrong thing. I'll just feel bad. It comes in many forms, migraine, or nerve pain, very bad inflammation in some area. That sort of thing that can last for several days and make you feel like you have aged 20 years! It can be scary sometimes when you don't know what has caused it. Avoiding the food is much better! I do so miss eating normal though.

I hope you can find time to get back to your studio soon Autumn. Good luck!
